Matte White Germany

In addition to touring Greece we were lucky enough to visit my brother Dan and his girlfriend Priya at their fabulous home in Bavaria, Germany. Priya is an artist who does beautiful work which you can see on her website.

Much of her work is filled with beautiful saturated color and here is a lovely ethereal white.
Their village, Kallmünz played host to a famous meeting between Russian painter Wassily Kandinksky and the German painter Gabriele Münter in 1903 and now many artists call this village home. Lucky artists! One day we took a walk over mountain and past the beautiful castle and were delighted to come upon a stone worker's workshop on the outskirts of the next village. He does such beautiful work! He was reproducing the entire tarot on these stone tablets.

We were amazed by the detail and craftsmanship.
Next, we visited a friend Sonja's castle. So dreamy!!

The chalk on the door (below the top panel) tells the last time that the house was visited by the 3 Kings. They apparently swung by in 2006. I wonder if anyone was home?

I fell in love with the relief work on the interior ceilings. My husband and I had such a special time in Germany and want to thank our hosts for taking such great care of us.

Auf wiedersehen!

Amanda

  1. WOW. If I ever just happen to have a castle someday, I'll be sure to let everyone know so they can drop by. Especially royalty. ;) Beautiful photos. I hear the German countryside is the most picturesque and storybook-like, and these photos exemplify that!
